For large organizations it is important to assess your Power BI tenant for best practices, performance bottlenecks and security issues.
Things to include in a Power BI assessment are:
- Overview of platform (how many, reports, datasets, users and etc).
- Analysis of compliance with best practices (permissioning, setup, and practices)
- Security analysis (widely shared artifacts, potential risks, PII and data residency issues)
- Performance analysis (identify actionable items and bottlenecks such as long running refreshes, inefficient DAX calculations, high utilizers)
- Reporting to monitor remediation and changes. It’s one thing to identify a problem, and another to have the tools to monitor if it’s been able to resolved.
